CompTIA’s BC/DR research in 2013 revealed 72 percent of VARs, MSPs, and other IT solutions providers offered these solutions, and 21 percent planned to offer them. The study also looked at related offerings provided by channel partners. Data protection/management is the most common, provided by 70 percent of those surveyed and planned by another 23 percent. Other related offerings are compliance management, provided by 66 percent and planned by 24 percent; on-premises storage solutions provided by 61 percent and planned by 18 percent; cloud-based storage solutions provided by 52 percent and planned by 28 percent; and distributed storage solutions provided by 48 percent and planned by 23 percent.
The overview’s authors state: “Lack of familiarity with the full range of BC/DR tools, technologies, and best practices ranks as a top adoption inhibitor among customers.” But, as the report points out, this pain point is an opportunity for IT solutions providers to further establish their role as trusted advisor.
